Brynnlea Barrett is an artist who spends the majority of her time creating art pieces. Many artists use art as a way to express themselves, Brynn is a creative, talented artist that is learning how to express her feelings and emotions through art.

Brynn says, “I am really passionate about creating art and I feel like my biggest hobby is going outside and traveling but creating art and painting is my favorite.”

Many pieces of art have a story behind them, simple or complex, there is always a story. When artists put stories behind their art pieces it gives us a small glimpse into their unique lives and experiences. With art being Brynn’s biggest passion she says that her biggest accomplishment throughout high school has been,

“How far I’ve gone in art and just how I can develop and understand concepts more and being able to really put a story behind what I create.”

She also says how art has made her a more ingenious thinker. Brynn claims that art has made her more openly creative and taught her, “just how creative I can be in different things other than art like my room or my outfits or just coming up with ideas in everyday situations.”

As an artist, we asked Brynn who inspires her the most and she replied, “Not really any famous artists but I really enjoy Ms. Lesage.” Ms. Lesage is one of the FHS art teachers, Brynn describes Ms. Lesage’s art as “she is so open and creative and the way she does things. She really goes back to her own life and how meaningful it is”

To get through life it is important to have a constant, no matter if they always understand or don’t they are always there for you.

“I think that the biggest constant in my life would probably have to be my dad, he has always just been there for me no matter what, and even if he doesn’t understand something in my life he’ll try his best even though he doesn’t get it.” Says Brynn

This is “Skin to Skin,” the work that Brynn is proudest of and that was the most challenging for her. “it was most challenging to me because i was committing to something i’ve never done before, and it was a huge risk.” The piece depicts a women with a warm color palette and the hands grabbing her as they long for her and need her .

Art can be very challenging even for the most talented artists as they try new techniques and styles to find more they like.

Brynn says “A piece of art I am most proud of and the most challenging is, last year for my art class. I painted a physical touch painting. I finger-painted it and did not use any paintbrushes and that was pretty hard. It was my first time doing that but it turned out really well so I was very proud of it.

After Brynn graduates in May, she does not have any plans straight out of high school, she plans to take a gap year to really find out what she wants to do. We also asked her what she would want to do as a career. Brynn has a very broad range of careers but the few that stand out to her the most are either a nutritionist, a park ranger or art therapist.

Brynn says that “I really want to figure out what I would like to do, instead of just jumping into something that I will regret later.”
