Meet Frederick’s most beloved photographer

From sporting events to performances, car shows to senior photos, Chris Tone does it all. Tone dedicates his time and talent to Frederick High School to capture our favorite people and memories.

Back in 2016, when Tone was working for AT&T, he began to feel like he wanted to do more with his spare time. He started photographing car shows and continued that for several years until he began to feel burnt out from only focusing on one subject.

When Tone’s daughter, Emma, was in middle school, he began photographing her school events. He also became more active with veteran groups and organizations, which allowed him to branch out his photography subjects.

After Emma started high school, Tone began to take photos of her and the FHS dance team at different events. When Coach Peeples noticed his camera out at a football game, he asked him to photograph Frederick’s football games. This was the spark that ignited Tone’s photographing of Frederick’s events. He began to purchase a variety of cameras and lenses for different subjects.

Tone told the Lantern, “As time went on the bonds and family that is Frederick was positive and became a passion to support the different sports, drama, choir and band groups. So sure, we are capturing fun, and events. But we also are archiving special people, as many of you will be lifelong friends, and or more on and help remember those special moments and or people. Because we have also seen we have lost some special folks, and that is important to keep them close as well.”

This past June, Tone decided to retire and pursue photography full-time. He decided to follow his passions and begin a new career and chapter in his life.

Tone continues to photograph school events for fun, and has also begun to photograph senior photos, family portraits, anniversary gatherings, corporate events, government events, weddings, and company headshots.

“I hope that some of these photos are those memories that you go back and look at and go, man, I remember when that happened, or that it was a special time and special people.”
