The Boys Tennis team started the season off to a decent start with major wins and unfortunate losses. While their regular season is almost coming to an end, they are working hard for regionals and strive to even make it to state!
Tennis has been a popular sport in high school and around the world for many years; Tennis is ranked 4th most popular sport in the world attracting over a billion fans. The sport is played in major events like the Olympics, and the sport can be traced back to the 12th century as it was a French handball called jeu de plume or known as “game of the palm”. It was first played in the 19th century in England, ever since then it has become a big sport and attracted millions of fans. The game of tennis also has some of the best athletes in the world, including Serena Williams, Rafael Nadal, and Roger Federer, inspiring kids around the world.
After 79 number of matches played so far in the season, our team has 30 wins and 49 losses: A win percentage of 38%. But this doesn’t stop the Boys from working hard, as they believe they can make it to state as they have been putting work on and off the tennis court. The Boys have loved their New Head Coach Al Fauerbach as he has been helping them a lot, especially in the mental side of tennis.
Josiah Brittenham is a sophomore at Frederick High School and has been playing for the Varsity Boys Tennis team for 2 years now. Josiah has been playing Tennis for 5 years, and he fell in love with the game when he found out he was pretty good and it was a very fun sport for him. As he approaches the end of his second regular season, Josiah has many goals, especially in this coming up Regionals Tournament. “One player made state last year, but this year we are trying to get our whole team to state, and I believe we can.” Just a kid that started to play Tennis roughly 5 years ago has become a Tennis Star at Frederick High School!
The Boys Tennis team played October 4th and 5th for Regionals as the players hope to make top 3 and make it into state! The Boys have been working extremely hard for this moment and we wished them nothing but the best of luck!
