Only four episodes into season three of Jujutsu Kaisen, and fans are already falling in love with the new animation style and story of the episodes. Episode 1 of season three begins with Yuji washing his hands which are covered in blood. This shows off an amazingly shot metaphor of how he feels after the shibuya incident of season 2. The slow beginning of episode one really highlights Yujis sadness after experiencing many deaths after the show.
In this episode they also introduce a secondary villain Naoya Zenin; the misogynistic head of the Zenin clan. His introduction rolls the beginning plot for the Zenin clan and Maki Zenins plot to take it down which has been set up since her first appearance in the series. This episode also has the main feature of Yuta Okkotsu who serves the plot by fighting Yuji to “execute” him due to higher ups orders.
Episode two continues right where episode 1 left off. These episodes are also connected in a particular way due to them both being from the movie. So they’re structured for anyone that watches them back to back.
Episode two strays away from the sadness of Yuji and flows into the Choso vs Naoya fight which is the first showing we get of Naoyas speed and strength as well as Chosos. Both telling us how strong the Zenin clan’s head of the Hei really is and how much Choso has improved since season two when we first saw him.
Episode three while still well animated was a somewhat disappointment for some manga readers since most of the episode was an information dump on the Culling Games and Kenjakus plan. However, a lot of anime only fans were grateful for the more digestible presentation of all the culling game rules.
Kenjaku, previously known as Pseudo Geto to anime only fans, was also a very mysterious and illusive character that anime only fans did not know much about. Because of this, many watchers were grateful that his ideas and plans were more fleshed out in this episode. This episode also features our first viewing of Tengen.
A very powerful sorcerer that has been talked around ever since season 1. Tengen also sets up the plan she has for the culling games in this episode. Also at the very end of this episode they feature Takaba whom is a fan favorite among manga fans.
Episode four follows Maki Zenin and her going to the Zenin clan to claim some weapons from their vault which is a part of Tengens plan. However due to her and the Zenin clan being on bad terms they betray her in a very personal way. She then conducts her plan of slaughtering the whole clan which is a very satisfying thing for Maki fans to see.
A lot of fans have compared this episode to Kill Bill due to its overtop fight scenes and action movie like music. The music is also a big highlight of this episode as it is playing during almost the entire 30 minutes with very little quiet time for you to settle in on giving the episode a very fast paced feeling.
Near the end of the episode Maki faces off with Naoya Zenin. A previously introduced antagonist and also the head of the hei. A group of the strongest members in the Zenin clan. Naoya does a very good job of representing the Zenin clans inherent sexism and hatered for “weakness” and Maki does a very good job of representing the breaking of expectations as she is one of the few characters that are not present in the power system of Jujutsu Kaisen.
