Lindsey Vonn, a famous Colorado national skier is famous for her fame that she gained for being the first American woman to win Olympic downhill gold in 2010 and for her incredible ability to overcome injuries that could cost her, her fame. She is known as one of the most successful and resilient alpine skiers in history.
She has won 82 world cups and three Olympic medals. Lindsey Vonn has been skiing for over 35 years starting at the age three in Minnesota. She became a competitive racer at the age seven and embarked on a professional career lasting over two decades before her 2019 retirement. She then made a comeback in 2024 at age 40.
On January 30, 2026, Lindsey Vonn suffered from a recent major injury by tearing her ACL and experienced meniscus damage and has a bruised bone. She crashed at the World Cup in Cranston, Montana, Switzerland.
She crashed during a high- speed downhill crash, she crashed into a safety net during a training event which resulted in her tearing her ACL in her left knee. After tearing her AC, Lindsey Vonn undertook an “impossible” comeback attempt to complete the 2026 Milan- Cortina Winter Olympics, which resulted in a devastating, separate, and more severe injury.
On February 8, 2026, Lindsey Vonn during the women’s downhill event at the 2026 Winter Olympics in Italy, Lindsey Vonn suffered from a complex tibia fracture in her left leg, a severe break requiring multiple surgeries. This crash is followed up just days after she already competed with a previous ruptured ACL.
After suffering a tibia fracture, Vonn had to go through multiple surgeries in Italy, and was airlifted off the mountain and returned to the U.S to continue rehabilitation. She went through at least four surgeries to stabilize the fracture. Reports indicate that she had an external fixation placed on her leg.
By February 14, Lindsey Vonn reported that her fourth surgery went well and she was ready to return to the United States. A few days later she reported being back by saying she was back on “home soil” but was still unable to stand.
After Vonn’s injury and her return back to the U.S. her father has stated that if he has any influence on his daughter’s decision, he will no longer allow her to race, but Lindsey Vonn says otherwise that she is “still looking forward to the moment when I can stand on the top of the mountain once more. And I will.”
