Frederick High School in northern Colorado recently just put out a dress code, causing a little bit of mixed feelings and reviews. As of 2021, there was no dress code at Frederick High School, meaning people could mostly wear whatever they would like within reason. The dress code mainly started to come up when October 31st started to come quickly.
The first thing that was needed to be addressed was that students are now allowed to wear anything as long as it covers parts of the body that are known as inappropriate (we should know if an administrator deems it inappropriate or makes them feel uncomfortable, then they have permission to send you to the office). Although they are not allowed to wear anything drug or gang related, said the new dress code guidelines, it never once mentioned anything about Playboy, causing some controversy.
The Playboy symbol or logo is related to a sex symbol, which caused some not-so-happy people around the school.
When October 31st came, only certain things were allowed to be worn, meaning those inflatable things that we loved and we all thought were hilarious when we were younger are not allowed because they are distracting, and people jump up and down, causing them to take away from the learning in the classroom and causing a disturbance.
Teachers get upset because there is still a class day going on, and it distracts people from the lesson.
The last list of requirements for Halloween was updated. In the last Halloween dress code, students weren’t even allowed to wear masks, but due to post-COVID, we are allowed to wear COVID masks and any other masks that would only cover a section of the face, not the whole thing, so you are still identifiable to staff and teachers.
The mask you’re allowed to wear over your eyes is called a domino mask, and the mask that society had to wear was just a generic “COVID” mask or just a partial face covering, but you may not wear both. If you are planning to wear them both, Admin recommends you leave them home.
When it comes to Native American or any religion, it is a big topic overall this year, as of 2022. No costume is allowed to be impersonating or mocking somebody’s culture. If it is your own culture, you might want to talk to [email protected] for more information about your costume or outfit for the day. Your face can be painted, but just not all of it, because staff and students need to be able to find you and recognize who you are.
And last of all, there is no Jeffrey Dahmer due to reasons the admin and staff and school do not want you impersonating somebody who has been such a horrible person and impact on the country. Especially with the new show that recently just came out on Netflix.
What this boils down to is the staff had to make a change to the dress code because of the way people and staff were being treated when wearing their costumes. Halloween is not just full of fun; it is also full of learning as well. The admin understand that you want to have fun and you have spirit by dressing up, but they also want to learn as well.
