Frederick High School’s Varsity Cheer team will be competing in the state tournament on Friday. However, before the team departs for state, they hosted a showcase on Wednesday night in the Frederick High School gym where they showed off their routines that they will be performing at state.
There are a few different reasons as to why the Cheer team hosts a showcase night before competing in state. The main reason is to show appreciation for the parents and families of the cheerleaders, as well as to perform one more time before the competition. This event is hosted each year before the team departs for the state competition.
“We do this every year for a couple of different reasons. One, it gives us one more opportunity to perform our routine in front of people, not just two screaming coaches and our athletic trainer; it also allows us to give thanks to those who have supported us over the season,” says Rebecca Vincent, one of the cheer coaches at Frederick High.
Even with being at every home football game, as well as other sports events, the Frederick High School cheer team has been hard at work behind the scenes preparing their routines for the state competitions. In addition, the team is also incorporating stunts into their routines that have never been used by Frederick before.
“I also just want to give a shoutout to all of [the team members], they have done a lot this season and they have exceeded our expectations completely,” says Mackenzie Green, one of the cheer coaches at Frederick High School. They are doing things that the Frederick High School cheer team has never done, and we are so very proud of them,” she adds.
If you have the chance, we strongly encourage you to attend the cheer teams’ showcase night the next time it is hosted to see the great work the cheer team is doing outside of supporting the other sports team. We wish the cheer team the best of luck at their state competition, and we know that they will represent Frederick High School in the best way possible. The team has been working incredibly hard to prepare for the competition, and we know that they are going to do great.
