In Denver, Colorado has a new professional soccer team, known as the Denver Summit FC. This new team is joining the National Women’s Soccer League( NWSL) in the upcoming year of 2026.
There colors are said to be forest green, sunny yellow, and Red Rocks red. Their iconic crest features green and white mountains, a red sky, and a yellow sun. The Forrest green is supposed to represent the mountains and the pinion pines that are located throughout the region.
The sunny yellow signifies Colorado’s sunshine. The red rocks represents Red Rocks Amphitheater and geological formations. The Denver Summit FC states, “Our unwavering mission is to cultivate the preeminent professional soccer club globally, achieved through deep and meaningful engagement with Denver’s dynamic and multifaceted communities.” Their goals are to create a new and forever lasting legacy for women’s soccer.
According to this article, The Denver team is the 16th team to join the National Women’s Soccer league. This was able to happen from a business man Rob Cohen, who paid $110 million franchise fee for this new NWSL team.
It was announced that the Denver Summit FC will play in front of fans at home for the first time at noon on March 28 at Empower Field at the MIle High Stadium. Before that their season begins on March 18th while playing on the road.
After playing at Mile High, the team will be located in a temporary stadium in Centennials Potomac Park, next to their training center for at least two seasons. The Summit FC is looking for a stadium where all their fans can come to and a place to call their home. Though the team is playing on having there home location into the proposed 14,500 seat stadium in the year of 2028 at Santa Fe Yards.
Global design firm, Populous, is in charge of leading the stadium’s designs. It is said redevelopment at Santa Fe Yards for the new stadium will include a 3.5 acre recreational park and future mixed use development. The overall goal is to create a place where large crowds are able to watch and enjoy some entertainment.
The stadium also claims that it will be an area where it is walkable and an area that strongly suggests using public transportation. CAA ICON has provided stadium advisory advice services and it is providing full project management services to help begin the construction of this grand stadium.
The Denver National Women’s Soccer League has provided the who’s in charge of ownership. The CEO of IMA Financial groups, Rob Cohen is the new owner and the Summit FC new general manager is Curt Johnson Several others also involved is, Olympic skilling star Mikaela Shiffrin and former Broncos player Peyton Manning.
The NWSL team has hired Nick Cushing as its first head coach. His background includes being a coach for Manchester City Women and New York City FC(NYCFC) in MLS. While the new head coach has been announced, the roles for assistant coaches are still being filled.
As the Denver Summit FC continues to develop their roster, they have recently signed defender Camryn Biegalski. An already former NWSL player who played for the Chicago Red Stars, has signed a one year contract with the club. Other players they have signed include Colorado Native Ally Watt and goalie Adrianna Franch. The team’s strategy is focusing on trying to get players with Colorado root and building through free agency’s.
