“Wonka” is a new spin on the famous movie “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory”. It was released December 15, 2023. The star of the movie is a familiar face, Timothee Chalamet, as he played his role as Wonka very well. The story revolves around the upbringing of Willy Wonka’s success. As an aspiring magician, inventor, and chocolatier, he arrives in Europe to establish his chocolate shop at the Galeries Gourmet.
Willy Wonka doesn’t get the easy start that he was wishing for. Wonka stays at a boarding house owned by Mrs. Scrubitt. That following morning, Wonka sets off to start his career. He has a very successful day as people love his chocolate. The evil owners of the Galaries Gourmet try to stop Wonka from selling chocolate at any cost. Wonka comes back to the boardinghouse to pay his fee, Mrs. Scrubbit charges Wonka way more money then he was expecting. Wonka lost all of his money and still gets trapped in a boarding house and is forced to work until he can pay his dues. Wonka discovers an amazing group of friends that later help escape and create a success story and thus Willy Wonka’s chocolate factory was born.
This movie was filled with suspense, sadness, disappointment, and broken dreams. Everytime Wonka had little success, it seemed to be overlooked by terrible things that happened. All the money that Wonka would make, he would later on loose. The only consistent thing was the friendships that Wonka gained. You get to experience the upbringing of Wonka as well as musical experience. Although the movie was overall a hit, there were a few parts that were disappointing. We all have an idea of what Willy Wonka acts like. He’s weird and mysterious. In this movie there wasn’t that interpretation of that. Wonka was outgoing, fun, and very friendly. Some more questions popped up. Why did Wonka have to go through all of this trouble? Why did the police constantly try to arrest Wonka even though he wasn’t doing anything wrong? Why did the police listen to the evil chocolatiers? Why do they have so much power? Although these questions can be brought up, it creates a curious attitude towards the movie.
Overall, the movie was a big hit and worth watching. If you love suspense, emotion, and a success story then this movie is for you. This sappy, adventures, and exciting movie is great for all ages. This movie is highly recommended for an amazing experience. If you’re wondering how it all got started with Willy Wonka then this movie would be perfect for you.
