Students asking for admin isnt uncommon, but admin being in their office and accessible is. So what does admin do all day? They arent in their offices, which makes them not accessible to students. It depends on who you are looking for, but they are all busy. Each Assistant Principal has a “Bucket” this bucket consist of their main duties, as well as monitoring the halls during passing periods, being at both A and B lunch, as well as having meetings with students and parents.
The Admin Team, they each have an “alpha(the part of the alphabet they are in charge of)”. Within this alpha they will speak from freshmen to seniors that are at risk for not graduating, that are having issues with truency, that are in general a concern. And as a result of having this alpha they will have meeting with parents and students to see what the best choice will be for them.
Apart from these meetings with students and families they also have meetings to fullfill their big buckets, for example Mr.Gordon the Athletic Director has district meetings to schedule games for all sports. And although his title is athletic director he does a lot more, he manages a the majority of extracurricular activities. He also coordinates anything that has to be done in collaboration to another schools team. Ordering uniforms and Frederick attire is also all up to him, for someone to fullfill all of these duties within the school day would be a lie.
Admin has to spend time outside of the school day to go to board meetings, sports games, as well as time at home spending their time to do their “Big Bucket” things.
Being part of Admin is very time consuming in and outside of the building. Dr.Santos is in charge of State Testing, she coordinates and meets with others to coordinate the State testing that happens throughout the whole year.
Dr.Fox our Principal doesnt have a bucket necessarily, his bucket is being the principal. Being a principal is very time consuming. He has meeting with the district and other principals, he has many duties that arent seen by students at times. As does all of our admin, it is often overlooked what admin does because they do all of these things with a lower profile. They dont complain to students they dont complain to other teachers they simply do, wether it is inside or outside of the school
All of admin spends both first and second lunch in the cafeteria, observing and interacting with the students. Although admin does have offices and are rarely in them it is also by choice, who would like to sit in an office all day. They prefer to interact with students and teachers at the school. They also do the evaluations of teachers, this means that they have to go into the teachers that they evaluates classroooms at least twice a semester. As well as going into all teachers classrooms once a semester. “We dont want to sit in our offices all day, we dont want to be the administration team that kids dont even know who we are because we sit here all the time. We want to be in the hallways, we want to be in classrooms, we’re allways out there at the lunch time.” Explained Ms.Santos
How do you make an appointment to speak to someone in admin? Well it is very simple, although admins schedule is very tight sometimes. You can allways walk down to the office and ask if someone is there, but if they aren’t and you don’t need to speak to them urgently you can schedule an appointment.
