Lunch @FHS

Frederick High offers breakfast and lunch for all students. Due to the population at Frederick High, there are two lunch periods built into the school day, and each is based on a student’s third class of the day:

  • Students have first lunch from 11:00 AM to 11:30 AM if their third class of that day is English, Social Studies, or Fine and Performing Arts (which are found in the downstairs D, downstairs E, and C halls).
  • Students have second lunch from 12:30 AM to 1:00 PM if their third class of that day is Math, Science, or Physical Education (which are found in the upstairs D, upstairs E, and B halls).
  • Students with an off-block for their third period of the day have time off over both lunches.

Eating On Campus

All students also have the choice of one free school meal a day, whether that is breakfast or lunch.

BREAKFAST: Each day, students are served a prepackaged baked good (like a muffin), a cheese stick, fruit, cereal or cereal bars, and a choice of juice or milk. Breakfast is served before school, during first block, and during first passing period.

LUNCH:

VENDING MACHINES: There are three vending machines accessible to students: a Gatorade machine in the athletic (B) hallway and three vending machines in the Commons along the south wall that serve milk, sports drinks, chips, granola bars, and fruit snacks. The Commons machines are available during both lunches, before school, and after school but are turned off during classes. The Gatorade machine is always on.

Eating Off Campus

Freshmen aren’t allowed to go off campus for lunch. Sophomores, juniors, and seniors have the option of going off campus for lunch if their parents sign a permission waiver that can be found in the front office.

Within Walking Distance

As Frederick High is in a less-developed part of town, there aren’t many off-campus locations within a reasonable walking distance (ten minutes to walk there, ten minutes to order and eat, and ten minutes to walk back).

  • Santiago’s: Voted best Mexican restaurant in South Weld County, Santiago’s is at 5980 Keyes St., which is about ten minutes away from FHS by foot and two minutes by car (the restaurant also features a drive thru). Santiago’s serves breakfast burritos until 11 a.m. (before both lunches), and they have vegetarian and vegan options. Prices vary from $4 to $20 per item.
  • Taqueria La Esperanza: This food truck is parked outside the En Face dance studio at the corner of Tipple and Colorado during both lunches. They serve Mexican food, buffalo wings, and burgers. Prices vary from $3 to $12 per item.

If You Can Drive

There are a few more lunch locations within a ten-minute driving distance, assuming you can park, order, and eat with your remaining ten minutes:

  • Bash’s: Located at 330 Fifth St. in downtown Frederick, this pizzeria offers calzones, wings, sandwiches, and salads for both a sit-down experience and takeout. The restaurant is three minutes away from FHS, and while it is close enough to be within walking distance, orders do take some time to get out. Prices vary from $10 to $20 per item.
  • Safeway: Located at 8134 Colorado Blvd., students can pick up deli sandwiches, chicken wings, sushi, and any grocery item from this store, which is four minutes away from campus. Ready-to-eat deli items vary from $5 to $10 per item.
  • Teager Toasty: Located at 8110 Colorado Blvd, this Asian cafe serves bubble teas and small desserts. It is also in the Safeway Marketplace (four minutes from campus) and prices vary from $1 to $10 per item.
  • Dairy Queen: Located at 8350 CR13 near Pepper’s Fireside Grille, this restaurant features a drive thru with more dessert and snack-based options. Dairy Queen is four minutes away from campus with prices from $1 to $10 per item.
  • Ziggi’s Coffee: This drive thru kiosk at 6731 Hwy 52 is six minutes away from campus, and their drinks, breakfast items, and desserts vary in price from $1 to $10.
  • Burger King: Located at Laura Ct. in Dacono beside Maverick gas, this restaurant is five minutes away and features a drive thru. Prices vary from $2 and $20 per item.
  • McDonald’s: Located at 3650 Hwy 52 (just past the gas station at the 1-25/Hwy. 52 southwest corner), this restaurant is six minutes away and features a drive thru. Prices vary from $2 and $10 per item.
  • Starbucks: Located next to McDonald’s at 3652 Resilience Dr. (seven minutes away), this coffee shop features a quick drive thru. Prices vary from $5 to $15.
  • Subway: There are two locations within driving distance of Frederick: one near McDonald’s at 3652 Resilience Dr. (seven minutes away) and one at 8196 Colorado Blvd. in the Safeway Marketplace strip mall (four minutes). Both restaurants serve warm and cold-cut sandwiches, and prices vary from $10 to $20 per item.

If You Have an Off-Block

Students going off campus for lunch have traditionally found that the best food options aren’t within that ten-minute radius, so many use a 90-minute off-block for lunch to go further away from campus to Longmont, Erie, Fort Lupton, Thornton, or Westminster. This time frame opens up dozens of restaurants as options, but here are the most affordable and most popular among students within a 20-minute driving radius:

  • Pepper’s Fireside Grille: This sit-down American-style restaurant is located four minutes from campus at 8274 Colorado Blvd and serves sandwiches, burgers, and salads. Prices vary from $10 to $20 and service usually takes 45 minutes.
  • Butcher and the Blonde: Located at 515 Oak Street in downtown Frederick, this butcher serves fresh sandwiches, chicken, smothered fries, salads, and to-go items ranging from $5 to $15 in price. While only three minutes from campus, service does take 15–20 minutes.
  • Teriyaki Madness: Located at 4275 City Center Rd., this Japanese-fusion restaurant has meat, rice, noodle, and vegetable bowls along with vegetarian and vegan options. The restaurant is eleven minutes from school, takes around ten minutes to get food, and has prices ranging from $10-$20 per item.
  • Jersey Mike’s: Near Teriyaki Madness at 4265 City Center Rd., this sub shop takes eleven minutes to get to and has sandwiches and salads ranging from $8 to $20.
  • Good Times: This burger and frozen custard restaurant has a drive thru, but since it’s located twelve minutes away at 4310 City Center Rd., the time frame is a little too tight to get and eat a meal during a regular lunch period. Prices range from $5 to $15 per item.
