To follow your heart seems scary but if it’s what feels good to you then that’s all that matters. Senior Sam Schmid is a perfect example of doing just that! Sam is a very friendly and welcoming person who is also very outgoing and never afraid to turn down a challenge. Sam has always been the one person to go to for help when needed and he’s always up for a good time when it comes to hanging out with friends or helping out a classmate. Throughout his time at Frederick High School, Sam has taken a huge liking to choir. However, as soon as he started testing out his abilities as a fashion designer for the schools drama program he found his true calling and his number one passion.

I remember being about 8-years-old when I first claimed that I was going to go to art school for college. I lost sight of that in middle school when I started comparing myself to other people. It wasn’t last year that I truly fell back in love with creating. I discovered that I have a passion for fashion. So much so that I eventually became the Head of Costumes for the theatre department.” Sam stated.

Sam has always wanted to go to school for art. It’s been a dream of his for as long as he can remember the only trick was trying to figure out what he wanted to do.

“As a child, I always wanted to go to college for art but it wasn’t until last year that I knew that I wanted to go for fashion.” Sam said.

Luckily for Sam he got accepted into the Academy of Art University in San Francisco where he will be studying and diving more into the world of fashion.

“Finding out that I got accepted to AAU was a very emotional experience. I’m not sure that there’s an accurate enough word that describes it but I’d have to say that it was mostly a feeling of pride, excitement, overwhelmingness, and anxiety all at once.” Sam stated when asked how he felt when he found out he had gotten accepted.

For many people the thought of going out of state for college can seem intimidating. Especially when it means moving to a completely different state and starting your life over while trying to make some new friends. For Sam though, this is a challenge he is up for and ready to take head on.

“There’s always been a part of me that wanted to go out of state for college. I think that living somewhere new and experiencing what that place has to offer is a beautiful concept.” He stated.

Sam Schmid is an incredible friend and an even better classmate. He’s the type of person who always tries to be there for everyone when he’s needed and he’s the one person who’s known to never give up on his dreams. Sam plans on going to continue his schooling at the start of next year by going to the Academy of Art University in San Francisco where he plans to continue his studies in fashion. We are all extremely excited to see what he’s able to accomplish in his future career. On top of that we are also in agreence with him when he says:

“I believe that anybody can get where they want to be if they’re willing to put in the effort. I’ve always been told that, ‘nothing worth having is easy’ ”
