The Work We Do

Work is not a choice.

Nick Harding, Special Contributor

It’s what I need to do,

This work that takes all day,

It’s not a choice to be made.

I have a list of what is due.

I put everything else away.

It’s what I need to do.

All the effort I put into

The work that forces me to stay,

It’s not a choice to be made.

When the workload grew,

It moved me more and more astray.

It’s what I need to do.

The people above me come to review

What I need to put on display.

It’s not a choice to be made.

I’m so sorry I did this to you.

Life may not be what people say.

It’s what I need to do.

It’s not a choice to be made.
