What is Changing at Frederick High?

With Frederick High changing its mascot this summer, we went on the search for what exactly will be changing.

In the past, The Scout has published stories covering the mascot change that will be occurring at Frederick High School over the summer of 2022, following the passing of Senate Bill 21-116. Now that the new logos have been created by the St. Vrain Valley Schools Communications Department and have been approved by the Board of Education, it is almost time for changes to start being made. But what exactly is having to change this summer? A lot. Check out the photos below to see the changes that you can expect before the start of the 2022-2023 school year.

The Frederick High School sign at the front of the school that was created by the St. Vrain Valley Schools Career Elevation and Technology Center. As Frederick High transitions to the Golden Eagle mascot over the summer, this sign will be removed and replaced with one reflecting the new mascot. “You have this school that has been around for forever [that] has a rich tradition and history around the Warriors, and some of the things in the display cases aren’t going to go away because those were won while we were the Warriors so those will continue to stay in there as Warriors,” shares Mr. Ty Gordon, the Athletic Director/Assistant Principal at Frederick High. The Frederick High School name and logo in the front hallway. This summer, this will be refreshed with the new logo and updated colors. “I have been the lead person here at the High School of making a majority of the changes, and some of those changes, are [shown in the images below], as well as the gym floor logos, the no food and drink logos, other logos that are down the athletic hallway, banners, uniforms, rugs as you enter the building,” Mr. Gordon shares. The Academic Letters and historic Letterman Jacket are displayed near the front of the school. When the mascot changes are occurring this summer, these will either be completely removed, or they will be moved to the display case in the commons. “Some of the other logo things just have to go, [such as] the Warrior Leather Jacket. That might be something that we put in the display case since it is an old piece of memorabilia, but it is also one of the pieces that we may not put up since it could cause controversy, and those are the things we are trying to get rid of,” Mr. Gordon shares. The Honor Roll displays near the Resource Room and Health office. “You have this school that has been around for forever [that] has a rich tradition and history around the Warriors, and some of the things in the display cases aren’t going to go away because those were won while we were the Warriors so those will continue to stay in there as Warriors.” (Owen Willis)

The wallpaper signs in the commons at Frederick High near the Gym and Auditorium. Over the summer, these will be replaced with new banners that were designed by St. Vrain Valley Schools’ Communications Team. “We have a construction crew coming in right when school is out to start doing a lot of the demolition work. If you notice, the LED sign at the front of the school used to have Warriors on it and they have already taken that off. The rock out front used to have Warriors on it and they have taken that off [as well],” Mr. Gordon tells The Scout. (Owen Willis)
