The Frederick Golden Eagles girls volleyball team entered the postseason with a record of 13-10 and a win percentage of .565. After a long and competitive regular season, the team was eager to prove themselves in the playoffs. Their first two matches would put their determination and teamwork to the test, starting with a tough opponent, the Rock Canyon Jaguars, one of the top-ranked teams in the state.
Going into the matchup, Rock Canyon had an impressive record of 20-3 and a win percentage of .870, ranking them third overall in 5A varsity volleyball. On paper, Frederick was considered the underdog, but the Golden Eagles came ready to play and give it their all. Despite their preparation and energy, Rock Canyon’s experience and strength showed early in the match.
In the first set, Frederick fell short with a score of 10-25, struggling to find momentum against Rock Canyon’s powerful offense and strong defense. The second set followed a similar pattern, ending 13-25 in favor of the Jaguars. Frederick fought hard in the third set, showing flashes of their teamwork and hustle that got them to the postseason, but Rock Canyon ultimately sealed the match with another 13-25 victory. The loss resulted in a 3-0 sweep, marking a tough start to Frederick’s postseason campaign.
However, the Golden Eagles didn’t let that loss define them. Their next matchup came against the Erie Tigers, a familiar opponent with a 15-8 record. This game was much more evenly matched, and both teams knew that every set could go either way.
The first set was tight throughout, with both sides trading points and showing impressive defensive plays. In the end, Frederick came out on top 25-21, taking an early lead in the match. Erie responded in the second set, winning 25-21 after several long rallies and strong serves that challenged Frederick’s back line. The third set was another close battle, but Erie edged it out 25-23, putting Frederick on the brink of elimination.
Refusing to back down, the Golden Eagles regrouped and came out strong in the fourth set, showing resilience and teamwork. They played with confidence and energy, winning 25-20 to force a decisive fifth set. The final set was intense from start to finish, with both teams diving for every ball and the crowd fully engaged in every point. In a thrilling finish, Frederick held on to win 24-22, completing a dramatic comeback and earning a hard-fought victory.
That win over Erie was a testament to Frederick’s growth as a team. It showed their ability to stay composed under pressure, work together, and trust one another when it mattered most. Although their postseason run came to an end after these matches, the Golden Eagles finished their season proud of how far they had come.
This year’s team demonstrated true dedication, sportsmanship, and perseverance. They overcame challenges, supported one another through tough games, and represented Frederick High School with pride.
Even though the season has come to a close, the experience gained and memories made during this playoff run will stay with the players and coaches for years to come. The Golden Eagles can hold their heads high knowing they gave it everything they had and set a strong foundation for next season.
