Josh Boone has done it again—Regretting You is another sensational tearjerker of a film that, to be frank, brought me to tears with in my seat on multiple occasions.
The film is a newly fleshed out adaptation of the bestselling romance author, Colleen Hoovers’ story. It follows two separate storylines throughout the film—both of them juggling issues of their own.
Both sets of storylines coincide though, when they realize that their worlds collapse because of two deaths in the family. A scandal arises amongst their family, and they must find a way to combat the rumors and collectively come back together to support one another.
McKenna Grace, best known for her multitude of roles as a child actress in films galore, continues her legacy onwards as a now adult. Her more recent popular films included the newest additives to the honored Ghostbuster franchise, but now she adds romance actress to her resume.
Alongside her, the up and coming newest actor to hit the scene and take the world by storm—Mason Thames. Best known for his role in the live action adaptation of How To Train Your Dragon, Thames and Grace both have a plethora of roles under their belt to contribute to their experience.
Regretting You, follows Graces character, Clara Grant, and her mother, Morgan Grant (played by Allison Williams, known for her role in the M3GAN movie duology, and Jordan Peele directed, academy award winning movie, Get Out), as they lose two important figures in their lives. Both are forced to find avenues to recover, but both end up coping in a similar fashion—finding romance in places that seemed impossible.
For this being both Grace and Thames’ first times filming intimate scenes for a movie/romance in general being the focus as stated in an interview both did on Entertainment Tonight, they did an incredible job.
Their comfort and chemistry is unmistakable on the screen, and the film flows so naturally amongst all of the actors and actresses.
The film, while covering serious topics such as death of a loved one, also adds a fun flare with the romance elements amongst the cast. It doesn’t gloss over serious material, and feels respectable to the moments that deserve sobs of sorrow.
The films runtime sits at an hour and 56 minutes, which leaves plenty of time for development between the audience and the cast members. Leaving the film felt like leaving a piece of your family behind with the chemistry you build with the cast themselves.
Overall, Regretting You is a cinematic masterpiece in my opinion. We were long overdrawn for more Colleen Hoover related movies, especially ones that didn’t carry a scandal with them similar to It Ends With Us movie. You will not regret seeing this excellent adaptation, and neither will anybody you choose to tag along with. Grab tickets, popcorn, and tissues, and prepare for the cinematic Josh Boone masterpiece, Regretting You.
