The spooky season has come to Frederick High yet again, and Frederick students did not disappoint with their creative and detailed holiday costumes… and with Halloween on a Friday this year, October 31 felt more festive and full of energy than ever.
This year, Frederick students also broke with trends more than previous years. According to Google’s Frightgeist tracker, this year’s most popular costumes were Rumi, Zoey, and Mira from K-Pop Demon Hunters, the school wasn’t overrun by magical musicians. Instead, we saw everything from woodland animals to comedies from two decades ago. This year also saw an increase in group costumes over singles and a surprising number of original costumes not tied to any films, video games, or TV.
Of course, there were also the annual appearances by Spongebob, the Freddy Fazbear crew, Mystery Inc., and Disney princesses. Unlike previous years, there was a notable lack of superhero costumes, which mirrors the decline in the popularity of comic book movies in the past few years. There were also more homemade and fewer store-bought costumes than usual, which may be a result of this year’s price inflation.
