On Tuesday, September 9th, Apple hosted an event that started with the AirPods Pro 3rd generation announcement. Alongside the newest generation of Apple Watches and the announcement of the new iPhone Air, iPhone 17, 17 Pro, and 17 Pro Max.
Apple started their event with the AirPods Pro 3 announcement. Rumors of the AirPods Pro 3 were just about everywhere, and now people have access to the actual product! The AirPods Pro 3 were introduced in the event as having “breakthrough audio performance” and “entirely new capabilities,” all at the same price, $250.
The new venting within the AirPods Pro 3 helps more air move around the AirPods’ speaker, allowing for this generations’ deeper bass. This new generation is paired with a new EQ curve that alters itself depending on the volume of your music, lowering the bass and flattening the curve when listening at louder volumes due to humans being more sensitive to both lower and higher frequencies at high volumes.
However, not everybody loves the sound profile of the new generation. Although I enjoy it, because of its similar sound profile to my more expensive, over-ear headphones that I have previously tweaked the response curve of. Because of this difference from the second generation of AirPods Pro, some reviewers like Linus from Linus Tech Tips on his tech review channel ShortCircuit have complained extensively about it.

The noise canceling on these new AirPods is an improvement. This generation now comes with foam-infused silicone ear tips, which Apple claims gives 2x the noise canceling of AirPod Pro 2 and 4x the noise canceling of the original AirPod Pros.
They even make the bold claim on their website of “The world’s best in-ear Active Noise Cancellation.” The battery life of these earbuds is also improved from the last generation; with ANC on, these are able to reach upwards of eight hours on a charge, up from six.
The fit of AirPod Pro 3 is significantly updated; the AirPods themselves are smaller, and the angle of the silicone tip is changed to follow “the natural geometry of the ear canal,” as Apple says. The silicone tips also comes in five sizes now, these being large, medium, small, extra small, and extra extra small.
The water resistance is also improved, up from IP54 on the AirPods Pro 2 to the new IP57 rating, which now means that they are technically able to withstand up to 1 meter (or 3 feet) underwater for up to 30 minutes in ideal conditions.
Heart rate monitors are also new with this generation, previously only available from Apple in their Beats by Dre branded Powerbeats Pro 2. However, some reviewers have noted that when comparing the Powerbeats with the AirPod Pro 3s, the AirPods do a much better job at tracking heart rate.
YouTube reviewer DC Rainmaker in particular compared and showed that the AirPods Pro 3 heart rate monitoring is near identical with notable marketed-for-workout brands like Garmin, whose smartwatch products range in prices upwards of $1200.
However, the heart rate monitoring does come with a caveat: this feature is only available to be used when tracking a workout in either Apple’s official Fitness app or in some 3rd party apps when on iOS 26. You cannot use this feature to track your heart rate throughout the day.
Live translation is now available alongside the brand-new AirPods Pro 3s but is also available on the AirPods Pro 2nd generation & AirPods 4th generation. It is a new feature allowing for those with these devices to communicate with those who speak a different language, currently limited to Spanish, French, German, Portuguese, and US & UK English as of September 24th, 2025.
.Those with one of these three generations of AirPods are able to start translation if their iPhone is capable of Apple Intelligence and are able to start live translation by pressing and holding both AirPod stems at the same time.
Overall, this new generation of AirPods Pro has been terrific to use. They have had a few quirks, like having to find the right size ear tip, but have been wonderful besides that. I am very glad to say that these earbuds will happily be replacing my wired earbuds, which I have been using with my Apple devices for years.
