This year, Frederick High’s Homecoming was themed Rhythm in Rio, and the student body and staff dressed up in the spirit of carnival in the week leading up to the dance.
- Monday, September 15, brought us to Brazil with Airport Outfit Day. This fun twist on Pajama Day asked Frederick to come in their most comfortable clothing, the type one would wear on a long flight. Some spirited folks went all out on the theme, also bringing with them neck pillows, eye masks, and suitcases instead of backpacks.
- Tuesday, September 16, centered on the renowned avian life of Rio de Janeiro with Birds of a Feather Day. Students were encouraged to “find their flock” by all dressing the same. Some form of Twin Day has been incorporated into Homecoming Spirit Week every single year since the school has opened, but this year had an incredible number of Golden Eagles winning by twinning.
- Frederick High went wild on Wednesday, September 17, with Welcome to the Jungle Day. Students were asked to find their fiercest animal print or to wear camouflage to blend into the rainforests near Rio. While Homecoming Wednesday has typically been a Class Color Day (where every grade dresses in the same color), everyone embraced the more unified theme of exotic wilderness.
- Beyond its natural beauty and diverse ecosystem, Brazil may be best known for its love of sports. Some of the biggest professional futbol (soccer) and volleyball stars come from Brazil, and Rio de Janeiro has so far been the only South American city to host the Olympics. Frederick paid tribute to Brazil’s love for athletics with Jerseys in Janeiro Day on Thursday, September 18.
- Friday, September 19, saw the true kickoff to Homecoming with the Homecoming pep assembly and Homecoming parade before the big home game against Montbello (which Frederick won handily 42-21). As is tradition, students and staff broke out the tutus, the face paint, and their favorite Frederick fits for Blue and Gold Spirit Day.
