Friday night lights were shining extra bright for Frederick’s homecoming game, and the energy in the stands was strong. The Eagles came out determined to show everyone why this game mattered; they didn’t want to lose their streak after beating the Falcons and had hope. From the opening kickoff, Montebello scored first; however, that didn’t bring the Golden Eagles down at all. The team played with everything they had; every tackle and every cheer from the crowd built up to a night to remember.
Sonny Delpizzo scored with 3 minutes left in the first quarter, and the score was tied. The homecoming game was crowded, with parents cheering for their children, cheerleaders throwing amazing stunts and the student section cheering for their team. Another touchdown for the Golden Eagles, they were not tied anymore and the student section grew confidence cheering in the 2nd quarter.
The highlight of the game came when Sonny Delpizzo (#1) broke through the defense with speed and power, making his way into the end zone for a huge touchdown. The stands grew louder and everyone was cheering, in that moment it set the tone for the rest of the night. Confidence was boosted throughout the team. With that score leading the charge, the Eagles never looked back, From then on out the team was only moving forward.
Play after play, the team dominated defense shutting them down, offense grinding yards and racking up points. By the fourth quarter, it was clear, the Eagles weren’t just winning, they were sending a message.
When the clock hit zero, the scoreboard told the story (42-21), we beat them on our Homecoming night, proving our teamwork, and our eagle pride. The celebration on the field and in the stands was pure energy. This was more than a game, it was our night and a good start for the Frederick community with homecoming the next day.
