Here at Frederick High School, parking passes are mandatory for students to buy. These parking passes allow students to park in either the front or back parking lot, as well as the CETC and Innovation center. While the admin think that these parking passes are beneficial, they really aren’t.
The cost to park at school
Students believe that the parking passes should be free, because they should not have to pay to park at the school they attend. While these passes are $5, it’s a hassle trying for students to get a parking pass before their car gets towed out of the parking lot.
These parking passes can be bought in the office, with cash only; which creates another struggle because most teenagers don’t carry cash on them anymore.
What to do with the parking pass
Once students receive their parking pass they will need to put it on their rear-view mirror so the campus supervisors can see it and make sure the student has it. If the parking pass is not noticeable, the student will get a note on their windshield about it. This note will have the cars license plate number on it as well as a QR code to buy the pass.
Students must have a pass to be able to park in the front or back of the school. Campus supervisors go around the parking lot to see who has one and who doesn’t.
Students at Frederick do not necessarily like having to deal with parking passes because it’s kind of pointless.
Senior Kaylee Ledgerwood says “I think parking passes are useless because I feel like we shouldn’t have to pay to park at school.” The beginning of the school year is already stressful for students, and having to buy a parking pass before getting a consequence makes it even more stressful.
Junior Jayden Grigg says “It’s pointless to have to buy a pass, especially when it’s only $5.” Grigg wonders what the office does with this money, since it’s such a little amount. Not every upper class man has a car to park and not every person buys a pass so what does the admin do with the little money that they get from students?
Frederick high school isn’t the only school that does parking passes though, most schools in the district have to buy a new parking pass every year. These parking passes seem like they are useful from the admins point of view, but it’s really just a waste of time and resources.
