Diabetes is a very serious disease where the body doesn’t produce enough insulin. Insulin is a hormone that helps glucose from the food you eat get into your cells be used for energy. If there is not enough insulin produced in your body, glucose builds up in the blood, leading to high blood sugar levels. There are many types of diabetes but all can be deadly.
Type 1 diabetes is autoimmune so the body’s immune system attacks and destroys the cells in the pancreas that produce insulin. Type 2 diabetes occurs when the body becomes resistant to insulin and the pancreas can’t produce enough insulin to keep blood sugar levels at their normal levels.
