Body Cam: A Horrific System
October 11, 2020
A 2020 film about the corrupt justice system turned to panic. Body Cam is a horror film that makes the heart race and the palms sweat as the story goes along. This film was released on May 19th of 2020, Body Cam was directed by Malik Vitthal. This is a great watch for young adults if they want to watch a crazy story unfold.
Body cam starts out in a tragedy with Renee in distress after losing her son in a swimming pool accident. The main character has many struggles of her own because of her race and the issues she had in the past. Mary J. Blige as officer Renee Lomito-Smith and her partner, Nat Wolff as officer Danny Holledge. The two partners respond to a normal call with an unexpected twist, body cam footage only Renee can see. This footage is causing a riot within the police department, no one thinks it exists.
At times this film is riveting but the other times the plot gets predictable. Movies have to flow well from scene to scene and this film doesn’t, it becomes choppy and boring towards the middle. It’s hard to distinguish what is the climax vs the rising action. Body cam has a great storyline and plot but the way it was executed didn’t flow well. On the other hand the acting in this film was great, it’s always hard to act in a horror film but the actors/actresses did a great job. In movies the sound track helps distinguish the mood of that scene and that was portrayed also by the camera work, it became very apparent how hard everyone worked on this movie with the shots they took. That feeling did not stay for long because costumes are what draws people in and shows what kind of style this movie is and the wardrobe just felt thrown together and was somewhat basic.
Overall this movie deserves a B rating. It is definitely worth watching at least once in your life if horror is a genre you like. I felt that my time wasn’t wasted after this watch, a great movie for a mature audience. Make sure you don’t spill all of your popcorn…
