There is a new tradition at Frederick High School, “The Couch”. This tradition started when basketball season kicked off. During a home basketball game at Frederick every student who goes to Frederick gets a raffle ticket by a student council member before the game starts. Then once the game starts, the announcer for the game announces the winning number.

Once the winner ticket gets announced, the lucky winner gets to pick one friend that they  want to sit on the couch with for the duration of the game. The winner gets a whole pizza to themselves and they get to share the pizza with the friend they chose. The winners can enjoy their pizza and sit on the couch for the entire game until the next raffle ticket is announced.

If there are two basketball games in one day, then there will be two pizzas to handout, one for the first game and another for the second game.

The couch is a new thing that Frederick is trying to bring into the community and a lot of people have said that it is a fun and entertaining thing to do during games. Being able to sit with a friend and enjoy a free pizza on the couch for a whole game is a great way to watch the basketball games.

The couch was an idea from one of the basketball coaches at Frederick; Mr Klimper. He stated that the couch was a huge thing when he was in high school and he wanted to bring it to Frederick. He then went to student council and asked if there was any possibility for the couch to happen. There is a really good possibility that student council will continue the couch for longer and maybe make it a thing for some fall sports.

The reactions to the couch shocked student council, they didnt realize how much people would enjoy this couch. The couch has proven to be a great thing, bringing more people to basketball games for the chance to win a seat. For any students wanting to go to more school events, home basketball games are a great way to start. Come to the game, get a raffle ticket, and wait to see who the winner is.
