A familiar face for everyone who attends any school sport. Senior Mareta Sagapolutele leads the rowdy crowd at all sporting events. Ever since she stepped foot in the rowdy crowd her freshman year she has always wanted to be the rowdy crowd leader. “Rowdycrowd was always such a fun environment to be in and I always thought that it would be cool to give others that experience.”
Mareta is in the Student Council for the first time this year. Her favorite part about stuco is that she has a chance to plan all the fun and engaging events for the school. She’s always loved going to school events even before stuco. “I think socially stuco has helped me make friends with people that I wouldn’t have previously and has got me to open up more socially. And I think that academically it has given me another reason to stay ahead of my grades and be an example student for my peers around me. This is because we also have eligibility for stuco.”
Outside of stuco Mareta also does track for the school. Mareta has been doing track since the 6th grade. “I do track in the spring. And for fall and winter sports I am on the other side, and I am the leader for our student rowdy crowd.”
Track has always had a special place in her heart. Ever since she started in middle school she has always wanted to come back each year to the sport and her teammates. “I would say that my favorite part of every year is track season. It is such a fun and petite environment. And there are so many factors that make it my favorite such as, I get to be with my friends 6 out of the 7 days of the week, the weather starts to get nice again, and it’s the end of the school year.” Having experienced this environment for years straight and it’s all coming to an end is very bittersweet for Mareta.
Many of Maretas’ peers know her from her role at the sports events. Mareta brings the energy for each and every game keeping the rowdy crowd on their feet. “I think that the best part of being a rowdy crowd leader is being able to support our sports teams and make a fun, loud and rowdy environment to hopefully encourage those playing.”
After high school Mareta plans to go to college and major in criminology or criminal Justice with a minor in sociology. After receiving her degree she hopes to become a police officer.
Mareta is truly a leader. She’s always putting her foot forward and is constantly a role model for many of her peers. From being a student athlete to being a leader Mareta hopes that everyone can look up to her and also appreciate how she gets things done. If you’ve been to any of the football or volleyball games this year you have definitely got to see Mareta in action doing what she does best.
