A flood of Irish immigrants came to the US in the wake of the Irish Potato Famine. Most of them found jobs as miners and laborers, especially in Colorado Territory. Here, a group of Irish immigrants gather on a hill outside Leadville; by 1880 (when this picture was taken, Leadville was home to over 4,000 Irish immigrants.
