Taylor Swift, an 11-time Grammy winner, at the age of 32 recently dropped her new album “Midnights” on Friday, Oct. 21, 2022. This was the 10th studio album she produced.

Midnights is expected to Sell 1.4-1.6 million album units this week. That would be her best first week ever. This would also be the 4th-5th best first week in the US in history and the 2nd best for females.

Albums these days don’t just shout out the meaning behind them, this causes social media, swifties, and avid music listeners to dive into the album and find all the little details that listeners didn’t see at the face of the album. “/Midnights is a collage of intensity, highs and lows, and ebbs and flows,” she told fans on social media following the release. “Life can be dark, starry, cloudy, terrifying, electrifying, hot, cold, romantic, or lonely. Just like Midnights. Which is out now.”

During the album Swift’s voice is backed by ambient electronics and droning shoegazing guitars: it’s one of several songs in the album that you feel could suddenly surge into an epic chorus or coda, like some of the other songs she produced but never does. The entire album deviates from some of her more recent albums and takes fans back to the style of some of the first albums she released.

Midnights is Swift’s first album to be recorded entirely with Jack Antonoff, the two have spent nearly a decade of higher profile collaborations. In the past, he has accentuated Swift’s eagerly vivid storytelling with expressive, technicolor synth pop. Here, in accordance with the lateness of the hour, they explore moodier, more subdued hues built around vocal effects and vintage synths.
On the mid-album centerpiece “Midnight Rain,” against a backdrop as crystalline as the titular weather, Swift examines the pursuit of a career over a partnership. Exaggerating her natural uptalk, the production morphs her voice into a dramatic slant: “He wanted comfortable/I wanted that pain.” The woozy “Snow on the Beach” sketches an image of strange beauty in the twinkling synth and violin, as Lana Del Rey’s warm background harmonies add a welcoming coziness.

Later, as Swift hesitantly enters a new relationship on “Labyrinth,” the production mirrors the ice melting around her heart, each synth quivering a pump of new blood.
