After a season of overwhelming victories and heartbreaking defeats, the Frederick Warrior Volleyball team made it to Regionals on November 3, a feat not accomplished in over five years.  Unfortunately, stiff competition from Discovery Canyon and Golden led to three narrow defeats and the end of their postseason.

At the beginning of the day, the Varsity volleyball team had high hopes. Gillian Ridgely, junior, exclaimed, “Not gonna lie, I expect really good things today, I think it’s gonna go awesome!” Julia White, a senior, agreed and said, “I expect that my team’s going to work hard. We have the ability to beat both of these teams, it’s just a matter of showing up.”

The first set against Golden started strong, however at 24:16 us Golden pulled ahead ending the set with a score of 26:24. During the second set, Golden pulled ahead again and won it with a score of 25:20. In the last set of Frederick vs. Golden. In the end, the aptly named Demons bedeviled the Frederick girls.

Although it was a rough start to the day there were still some good plays, as Leilani Purcell led the game with seven kills, Josi Revielle led the game with three aces, and Paige Schaa had a stunning 18 digs.

The second game was Frederick vs. Discovery Canyon. The first set’s final score was 25:15 Canyon. The second set was a bit closer with an end score of 25:23 Canyon. The rotation changed and it was a tighter game.

The momentum of Frederick’s game had slowed, but heartwarming cheers from Golden cheered the Warriors on. “Here we go Frederick, here we go!” could be heard throughout the gym as the Warriors fought on. This game was their last chance at state and unfortunately, we lost. Although it was an emotional ending to the Warrior volleyball’s season they still played as hard as they could!
