With COVID-19 running rampant this year, many people are wondering whether or not they will be able to see their families during the holiday season. And while many people would like to see their families on Christmas, the CDC and Dr. Fauci is recommending everyone stays home for Christmas.

“For the first time in more than 30 years, I’m not spending the Christmas holidays with my daughters.” Dr. Fauci said.

This feeling is shared by many as they spend their first Christmas in a long time without family. At the Scout, we talked to Jynette Knapp who is a member of the town of Frederick’s community. She said:

“It’s the first time in my entire life that I’ll be spending Christmas away from my mom, dad, and brother.” She also said that she is “disappointed and saddened by the fact that she could kill her parents just by being around them.”

This unfortunate news comes amid warnings from health professionals about another surge of COVID. More restrictions are being put into place in many states across the United States. These restrictions include stay at home and mask orders on the state level.

“I will be spending time with my parents over Christmas.” Says community member, Linda Cody.

“I don’t want to be separated from my parents and we have been taking proper precautions to ensure our safety as well as theirs.” When asked what precautions were being taken, she said that she and her family had been preparing to quarantine for a week before Christmas.

“We will not leave our house at all in the week leading up to Christmas,” Cody continued.

Although it sounds like a no fun and extremely boring Christmas, keep in mind that it helps everyone to stay safe. As cases throughout states decline and more and more orders are lifted people may have a chance to see their family on Christmas. If you do see your family on Christmas please keep in mind precautions that can be taken in order to have a safe and joyous Christmas.
