The show begins by John B narrating the lay of the land. He explains the Pogues, which are the people who work, and the Kooks, who are the wealthier group of people. John B is the main character, who lives in his dad’s shack (his dad disappeared over nine months ago). His mom is no longer in his life, and his legal guardian isn’t even in the state, leaving a 16 year old with no parents… meaning foster care services are coming his way. Right away, John B becomes and interesting character the audience can relate to.

John B’s friends are also really interesting and make the show an interesting watch. JJ is a surfer and provides the comedic relief for the group. Kiara, also known as Ki, is a Kook, as her dad owns a huge restaurant, but she likes hanging out with the Pogues more–she helps keep the boys in line. Pope is a nerdy, school driven kid, he’s definitely the brain of the group.

In the first episode, a hurricane wipes out everything. The morning after Hurricane Agatha, the teens run into a sunken boat, and this is where the rest of the show unfolds. These four best friends run into a clue that could uncover the disappearance of John B’s father.  From that moment on, the group takes numerous risks throughout all to help John B find out what happened to his father. Before his disappearance, he set out to find a treasure but unfortunately didn’t make it. Now the teens are searching for the gold and John B’s father

The show itself was filmed and edited extremely well. Almost all scenes were action packed, leaving me on the edge of my seat. The music they chose also fit perfectly with everything going on. As for the acting, it was truly fantastic–each character was really well developed and the cast embodied their roles seamlessly. They got an amazing group of talented people, and I really think if any of the roles were different, the show wouldn’t have been as good. I can’t find anything bad to say about it. The acting was really well done and convincing, and the production was great as well.

Overall, I would 100% recommend this show. It does have mild language and violence, but other than that I’d say almost all ages can watch it. There is always a lot going on, but it isn’t overwhelming. As a person who can usually only sit still for an hour or two, I was surprised when I finished all ten episodes in less than two days. The show really pulls the viewer in and makes them feel like they know the characters. It also has the perfect ratio of humor, action, and intensity, making it super interesting and fun to watch. I can easily say that Outer Banks is my new favorite show.
