Want to contribute to The Frederick Lantern or Frederick Firefly? Fill out the form below and submit your articles, stories, poetry, and artwork for publication! Here are our general guidelines for what we publish (you can find full details on our Editorial Policy page):
News Articles and Features
- must be a minimum of 350 words
- must have paragraph breaks
- must contain three quotes from FHS students/staff or three hyperlinks for online sources
- must not cover previous topics covered by the Frederick Lantern
- must be written in objective, bias-free language (no I, me, my, you)
Review Articles and Opinions
- must be a minimum of 350 words
- must have paragraph breaks
- reviews must be submitted within two weeks of media release
- reviews of R-rated and unrated films, TV-MA, M-rated video games, and explicit content albums may be reviewed as long as the review itself contains no objectionable language or content
- opinions must contain linked facts or quotes supporting the opinion
- must not cover previous topics covered by the Frederick Lantern
- may be critical and negative but cannot be insulting or vulgar
Prose Narratives (Fiction or Nonfiction)
- must be a minimum of 750 words, maximum of 3000 words
- must have paragraph breaks
- fiction must use original characters and situations (no fanfic)
- nonfiction should only use real names of others with permission
- all content must be appropriate for a high-school public audience
Poetry
- must be under 1000 words
- line breaks and spacing will match what is submitted
- if using a specific poetic form, indicate it in the additional comment box
- all content must be appropriate for a high-school public audience
Images
- must be submitted as a .jpg or .png
- should have a minimum size of 1000px x 1000 px
- should have a minimum resolution of 300 ppi
- dimensions may be 1:1, 3:4, 4:3, 2:1, or 1:2 (anything else will be cropped)
- should only use real people in images with permission
