Griffin Baldwin, Staff Writer

Griffin is a freshman at Frederick High and has joined the Lantern staff for the first time. Outside of journalism, he enjoys working out, playing baseball, and refining his skills as a photographer. After high school, Griffin plans on joining the army.

In February 2022, Russia invaded Eastern Ukraine at the insistence of President Vladimir Putin. While the Russians and most global analysts thought Ukraine would be quickly defeated, the Ukrainian state under President and former comedian Volodymyr Zelenskyy has kept the Russian war apparatus at bay. While Ukraine and its mainly Western allies are glad that the nation is still in the fight, the costs of a protracted war are starting to add up for everyone involved.
