Frederick High is proud to be the home of seventeen athletic teams and two unified athletic teams. Frederick students additionally have access to off-campus gymnastics, hockey, and lacrosse teams. Every athlete at Frederick High is expected to meet all athletic eligibility requirements and participate in competitions. Students are able to letter in every sport.
Every Frederick sport comes with a participation fee: $200 for football, $300 for cheer and dance, and $150 for all other sports. However, students who participate in all three athletic seasons get a discount on fees: the fees for the first and second sports are full price, but a third sport fee is reduced to $120. Frederick High also caps costs at $600 per family to help out families with multiple students at Frederick High playing sports.
Cocurricular activities are a blend of classes and after-school clubs and include all Frederick High classes that also expect student participation outside of school to organize school events, perform at school events, or report on school events. Permission to participate in the activity may be limited to only those enrolled in a related class, and students may receive a lower grade in their cocurricular class if they do not participate outside of school. These activities are also the most time-intensive outside of sports and may require participation fees.
Extracurricular Activities
Unlike cocurricular activities, extracurricular activities are held completely outside of school and are not connected to any class requirements. Most of these clubs let anyone join and don’t require members to attend every meeting. Think of these as “just for fun” programs. Any student can start a new club at Frederick High if they 1.) have at least six students interested in being members, 2.) find a Frederick High staff member to sponsor the club, and 3.) get approval from the principal.
Honor Societies
Finally, there are four student honor societies at Frederick High, each of which is a chapter of a much larger national or international society with hundreds of thousands of members. Honor societies are completely extracurricular but are invite-only based on criteria created by their national or international home office. These honor societies also typically have an induction ceremony for members and recognition awards.
