Senior Spotlight: Joshua Phillips

Josh spent his high school years hanging out with friends, playing guitar, and playing baseball for Frederick high school and his club baseball team the Roughnecks. He is someone who makes anyone laugh and is driven towards his goals and stops at nothing. He got a chance to pursue something that will make him succeed in his life.

Joshua Phillips is going to be able to do what he has always wanted to. He is going to be attending Independent Electrical Contractors Rocky Mountain (IECRM), which is a four-year electrical apprenticeship training program. This apprenticeship program is 4 years long and you get paid for your hours $13-$20 as long as you maintain above a C in each class you take. Joshua will be leaving to this school during summer 2021. He is prepared to take this experience professionally and treat it as a job.

Josh is always looking at his long term goals in life. He has wanted to do this apprenticeship since the end of last year after COVID-19 took away his baseball season. He said “After IECRM I want to get my journeyman’s license for an electrician, pass the exam, then chase the bag.”

Josh also had a potential scholarship for baseball at a D2 school but decided that was not something he wanted long term. He also has a high interest in making music, he plays electric guitar and acoustic guitar.

Josh cannot wait to see where this school takes him in life as well as enjoying himself in the real world. He has lots of people behind him supporting him. IECRM is an opportunity Josh never thought he would find.
