Howling at the Moon
How to avoid werewolves on Halloween 2020
October 31, 2020
2020 has been a crazy year this year, and it’s only getting crazier. On Halloween, there is going to be a full moon— the last time this happened was in 2001. So, to avoid getting caught up with werewolves, here’s some tips to stay safe during Halloween.
To start off, you need to know what a werewolf looks like. A werewolf, otherwise known as a lycanthrope, is a human being that transforms into a wolf in the event of a full moon. They have heightened senses, such as eyesight, hearing, and smell. They also have superhuman speed, strength, agility, etc. There are many different ways that werewolves are portrayed in the media on how they look in wolf form, but the most common (and the most reasonable) is just a small wolf.
So, where avoiding wolves is typically an easy thing to do considering there aren’t packs of wolves sitting right outside our front doors, it’s going to be a little bit harder figuring out how to avoid the wolves that suddenly appear out of nowhere. So, here are some tips to have a happy and safe halloween:
- Carry something made of silver with you.
Werewolves are highly sensitive to silver. Silver represents purity, and in lore, one of the many reasons people become a werewolf would be because they did something ”impure” and became a werewolf as sort of a ”divine punishment.”
- Avoid carrying any sort of meat with you
Werewolves have heightened senses and can smell whether or not you’re carrying some kind of meat with you, and since they’ve essentially become wild creatures with an unsatisfiable hunger, it may be best to leave that bag of jerky at home.
- Dress to blend in
In lore, werewolves are considered cannibalistic creatures that only feed on humans. By dressing up as something that doesn’t look human, so long as you act as what you’re dressing up as there’d be no way that the werewolf would be able to tell the difference.
- Wear your mask
In the event that you do encounter a werewolf, there’s a high chance that they won’t be wearing a mask. Studies have shown that COVID-19 can be contracted from animals, and since werewolves are both human and animal, there’s no way of telling if they have the novel coronavirus. So, wear a mask and stay safe!
- Carry plenty of candy on you.
A werewolves’ main goal is to get a big meal. So, if you encounter a werewolf and have a couple of extra pieces of candy, just toss them in one direction and go the opposite way that you threw the candy. There’s a chance they’re more interested in the candy than you.
Halloween is an exciting and fun time of the year, so don’t hesitate to have some fun on Saturday. Stay safe, and happy trick or treating!
