After a tough loss against Mead last week, the Frederick Golden Eagles came out determined to prove themselves, and they did just that Thursday night with a win over Skyline, leading to a 56–12 victory.
From the start, Frederick’s energy was all there. In the first quarter, Skyline had the ball, and the ball was returned straight away from Conner Bettencourt (#8) and Jovan Martinez (#9) on the 17th yard. Preston Kissinger (#4) went under center, took the snap, pitched it out to Sonny Delpizzo, and gotFredericks’s first touchdown.
In the second quarter, the scoreboard was 28-6 with touchdowns from Sonny Delpizzo twice and Skyline scored once by Ben Kearns (#1). In the third quarter, Preston Kissinger scored a touchdown for Frederick; soon after, Skyline scored.

That didn’t bring Frederick down—they were locked in and knew their next move, and soon after scored another touchdown by Sonny Delpizzo. He was locked in and had already scored four touchdowns for the Frederick Golden Eagles in the third quarter. In the fourth quarter, Frederick earned 14 points, while Skyline was stuck at that one touchdown.
The win carried extra weight for the team, coming just one week after falling short against Mead. That loss made Frederick’s football team more committed than ever. By halftime, the scoreboard already told the story: Frederick was up big. The Eagles finished with an impressive 56 points.
Frederick Students in the stands felt the win, cheering and happy as Frederick reminded everyoneof their potential. The Golden Eagles looked like a team ready to leave behind their past game and chase a strong finish to their end of game.
With this being the first win of the season, the football team and students have hope that they will continue the winning streak with their next game against Montebello for Frederick’s homecoming game.
