The Frederick girls volleyball team came into their home opener on August 28th with a 1-0 record after a strong season-opening win over the Fort Morgan Mustangs. Looking to build on that momentum, they faced a tough opponent in Standley Lake and although they didn’t get the result they wanted, the game showed just how much this team is willing to put up a fight.
Frederick got off to a slow start, dropping the first two sets 25-21 and 25-18. Despite the deficit, the Golden Eagles didn’t go down without a fight. In the third set, they came out with new energy and took control, winning 25-16 and closing the gap.

The fourth set was a back-and-forth battle, with both teams pushing hard for the win. Frederick kept it close the entire way, but Standley Lake ultimately pulled away at the end, taking the set 25-23 and winning the match 3-1.
Several players stepped up big for Frederick. Ava Reed had a standout performance with 13 kills, leading the offense and setting the tone all night. Marisol Tembrock helped keep the attack moving with 20 assists, while Addison Strojic led the defense with 4 big blocks at the net.
Ava Reed reflected on what the team took away from the night saying “Thursday was a really challenging game mentally and strategically. We could have done a lot of things differently like placing the ball better, making our passes more precise but we tried focusing on our side of the court by always trying to better the ball. We hope for our games in the future that there is a Jurassic change in this dynamic and to reach our goals of making it far into the post season.”
Marisol Tembrock talked about how the early challenges will help the team grow,“Thursday was a good game to see some good competition. We had our ups and downs but we learned alot. It’s always good to start the season off with teams that will push us to get better faster. We have things to work on but are excited to see where we can go this season. I am hoping for a good season with lots of good game play and wins. I’m excited to put in the hard work to get to our goals.”
Addison Strojinc spoke on what made Stanley such a tough opponent for Frederick’s varsity volleyball to play “ Stanley Lake is a tough team and they are very strong defensively. We had trouble connecting our defense to our offense which made it hard to place the ball and end long rallies. In the end, we didn’t come out on top but we’re still proud of what we were able to accomplish during the game. We are hoping to improve on everything we did and didn’t do throughout the game to improve our chances of making it farther in the postseason this year.”

With the loss to Stanley Lake, Frederick drops to 1-1 for the start of the season, for Standley Lake, the win makes it two in a row for them, now making their record to 2-1. The Golden Eagles will now look to bounce back and use this experience as fuel for the rest of the season. The next Frederick girls volleyball game will be Tuesday September 2nd and 6:30 where they will play a strong team, Thomas Jefferson with a current record of 4-2.
