Over the summer, there have been numerous floods throughout the United States. In total, the National Weather app issued more than 3,600 flash flooding warnings across the country since late July of 2025.
Texas, New Mexico, West Virginia, and New Jersey have all been facing deadly floods. There have been other states that have seen flash flood damage as well, such as New York, Oklahoma, Kansas, Vermont, and Iowa.
On Friday, July 4th, 2025, there was a huge flood in Texas Hill County that killed more than 135 people. The storm hit at the headwaters of the Guadalupe River. This was said to be one of the worst flash flood tragedies in decades.
Officials said on Saturday that more than 850 people had been rescued, including some holding onto trees, after a sudden storm dumped up to 15 inches of rain across the region.
The atmospheric water vapor was also said to be in the region at or near historic levels.
Hours of heavy rainfall early in the morning sent a river rising quickly at a summer camp near Hunt, Texas, where more than two dozen girls and the staff members had died. Also, it has been said that there are some people missing as well.
The Guadalupe River had risen nearly 10 meters high in under two hours on the morning of July 4th, 2025.
The waters had risen nearly 10 meters in just minutes as the downpours had fallen on the arid landscapes, at least 67 people had been killed, including children and adults who had been camping at the time.
There had been 11 missing girls, and the counselor was from the Camp Mystic summer camp, which was a nearly century-old Christian girls’ camp, which had 700 girls in residence at the time when the flood happened.
After a day of this disaster, the camp was a scene of devastation. Inside the cabins there were mud lines, which had indicated how high they had risen, which was roughly 6 feet from the floor.
Bed frames, mattresses, and personal belongings mixed with the mud, and everything was scattered inside. Some of the buildings even had broken windows and missing walls.
Leitha, a girl who was involved in the camp flood, said that there were again 11 girls missing and a counselor who remained missing.
According to some people, they said that the agency, the National Weather Service, had failed to accurately predict the severity of the floods and issue appropriate warnings ahead of the storm.
People are basically saying that the app had failed to provide the people an accurate reading of the storms, etc.
More rain was expected in the area on Sunday. The National Weather Service had said that there was a flood watch for Kerr County until 1 p.m. local time.
This disaster had unfolded rapidly on a ready morning as heavier than forecast rain. The rain drove river waters to a height as high as 29 feet, which is equal to 9 meters.
The Texas flooding will go down in history as a tragic disaster, taking the lives and homes of many. These floods brought damage, but the communities will get back up and work together to fix the damage.
