Taking high school by storm, Rolando Mijares Miranda has become known for his leadership and academic accomplishments.

Throughout his time at Frederick, Rolando has been an avid leader in Student Council, National Honors Society, Make-A-Wish Leadership Council, and Model United Nations (UN).

Rolando was on Student Council for three years and during that time he was able to lead the group through his positions as Committee head for Unified Showcase, Freddy Cup, and Wish Week.

With these programs he was able to showcase his leadership skills and his ability to not only connect with fellow students, but connect with people in the community.

When talking about Wish Week, Rolando said “We [student council] have events like the Wish Week assembly to open up the week, Chuck-a-Duck at basketball games, a Co-Ed dodgeball tournament, community nights throughout the week, finding sponsors, feeder school involvement, sports team involvement, and club involvement.”

Additionally, Rolando is also the president of the Frederick chapter of Model UN where he is in charge of organizing  and overseeing meetings, registration for conferences, and attendance.

Through Student Council, Rolando also had the opportunity to join the Make-A-Wish Leadership Council alongside other representatives from around Colorado. Alongside all of these extracurricular activities, Rolando has always had a rigorous academic course load. During his time at Frederick, Rolando took 12 college level courses and four honors classes with his favorite being AP Human Geography with Mr. Samson his freshman year.

“[It was] the first college level class I took. It’s my favorite because of its complexity dealing with not just geography, but with how it is intertwined with things like development and population. It was an interesting and difficult concept, made fun through Mr. Samson’s passion for the subject.”

While Rolando got to be taught by many different teachers during his four years, his favorites were the ones he ultimately spent the most time working with: Mrs. Revielle and Ms. Precht.

Mrs. Revielle was Rolando’s AP Government and AP Comparative Government teacher as well as the teacher who helped him get involved with Model UN. Ms. Precht is his Student Council advisor.

Rolando expressed how, “they have pushed me to do more and be better. Ms. Precht has pushed me to become a leader and make an impact at our school as well as being a good scholar. Mrs. Revielle would always push me to be more involved and seek opportunities for growth.”

After high school, Rolando will be attending CU Boulder to pursue a major in Aerospace Engineering with a minor in either applied math or computer science. While there, he will be a part of the Engineering Honors Program and hopes to be involved in the other opportunities the university has to offer.

Rolando said that he first became interested in Aerospace Engineering when he took a personality test that recommended different professions that suggested it for him.

“I was intrigued by the difficulty and the ability to pursue it in many different directions like through satellites, rockets, planes, and more.”

After he finishes his degree, Rolando hopes to eventually work at NASA “as an aerospace engineer contributing to space explorations through propulsion advancements.”

Outside of school, Rolando enjoys playing basketball, pickleball, and  hanging out with friends.

Rolando’s advice to underclassmen was simple, but meaningful: “Get involved in something, no matter how small it may seem, and remember to do the things you love.”
