Tesla is recalling almost all of its Cybertrucks because a metal piece on the outside could fall off while the truck is being driven. This could be not only dangerous for the driver, but for other drivers on the road if the piece flies off. The part that has been falling off is a shiny strip of metal near the front windshield. It’s meant to be stuck on with glue, but the glue is not working well enough.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) said that over 46,000 Cybertrucks are part of this recall. These trucks were made between November 2023 and February 2025 and Tesla says they first learned about the problem early in 2024. After looking into it, they are now telling truck owners that their vehicles need to be repaired.
Unlike some of Tesla’s other problems, this one cannot be fixed through a software update. Owners will need to bring their trucks to a Tesla service center. There, the company will reattach the metal part using a stronger kind of glue and add extra support so it doesn’t fall off again. This repair will be free for all Cybertruck owners.
Tesla plans to send out official letters starting May 19, 2025, to explain the issue and let owners know what steps to take. The company is encouraging everyone affected to get their trucks fixed as soon as possible.
The problem became more widely known after videos started spreading online. In the videos, people showed how easy it was to pull the metal piece off their Cybertrucks with their bare hands. These videos quickly went viral and brought more attention to the issue.
Experts say that using glue to attach parts to cars is very common now, many companies do it. But Tesla’s Cybertruck is made of stainless steel, which is not like the metal used on most other cars. Stainless steel is harder to glue, and that could be why the original glue didn’t hold.
This isn’t the first issue with the Cybertruck; since its release just over a year ago, owners have reported several other problems. Some people had trouble with the windshield wipers not working right. Others had problems with the screen inside the truck. There was even a serious issue where the gas pedal could get stuck, which made the truck speed up on its own.
Tesla has had a tough year overall. The company’s stock price has dropped by 42%, and it is selling fewer vehicles than before. At the same time, more electric cars from other companies—especially in China—are becoming more popular and taking a bigger share of the market.
