Senior Mia Salas knows exactly what she wants to do after completing high school. She’s going to attend a 4 year college at Pace University in New York. She will be starting during the fall, and she is going to get her bachelor’s degree in fine arts for design and production for stage screen.
After high school ends, Mia plans on going straight into theater and the film workforce for her career. She has a strong passion for theater and film and really wants to pursue these as a career. She does not currently have a job outside of school, but she does participate in some after school activities.
Salas is currently the vice president of theater and has been since freshman year. She has done theater since she was in 5th grade and has fallen more in love with theater every day. She is also in the film club which she has been in since freshman year as well.
Mia says she loves being involved in theater because she loves to tell stories and make people feel emotion by designing things for the shows.
While Mia took a lot of classes she enjoyed, she liked her AP chemistry class the most. “I really liked that class because it was really difficult and it genuinely challenged me. The people I had that class with also made it really fun and it just felt nice to be trusted to do such big activities for that class.”

Salas took many AP and CU classes throughout high school. She has taken almost every AP course since freshman year as well as the CU success classes. She was always in honors and AP classes throughout high school.
Mia maintained a 3.2 GPA and always tried her hardest. With all of the AP classes she took, it was a challenge but she enjoyed them a lot. Theater took up a lot of her time but she still managed to stay caught up with school work.
Mia had many favorite teachers but she had 3 in particular who she loved the most. Mrs Nugent was one of her favorite teachers because Mia loved how she spoke to her like a person and was very understanding of her mental health and anxiety. Mia also loved that Mrs Nugent talked a lot and wasn’t always super serious.
Mrs Gittlein is another one of Mia’s favorite teachers. She always wanted to know about her life and was always very forgiving if she didn’t understand something. She also really enjoyed Mr Crosby because he made math not boring and he made the class really silly and interesting even though it was just math.
Junior year was overall Mia’s favorite year because she had a lot of strong friendships that year and was really happy. But her junior year was also one of her least favorites because of all of the SAT stress and she was in a lot of honors classes which was stressful for her.
One of Mia’s favorite memories from high school was during her freshman year doing a Halloween parade for a play. “It was the first time I did something extracurricular outside of school and getting food after the parade was really fun too. It felt really nice to be included in things like that as a freshman and it made me fall in love with theater even more.”
If Mia could give any advice to someone just starting out high school, she would say “join extracurricular activities because whatever it is you will make so many friends. Even though it does take up a lot of time, you get to create so many special bonds and get really close with other people.”
Salas’s biggest role models are her friends Lily and Leah because they helped her a lot throughout high school. “They both got me out of my shell a lot and got me to start saying yes to more things that I was scared of. They also taught me that I can still accomplish anything even though things can be really stressful at times.”
The only thing that Mia would change about her high school career is to not procrastinate as much because now she understands now that high school is easier if the work gets done in time.
Mia Salas has made many memories, friendships, and learned a lot of new things throughout high school and is excited to start a new chapter in her life.
