Lucas Howell is a senior at Frederick High School, accomplishing many feats over the last four years. Lucas is currently on the track and cross country team and he is unofficially the team captain of the distance running crew. He is also a part of the student advisory council, where he meets with a few other students and provides student input to Dr Fox.
Howell did theater his first two years of high school and is involved in choir as well. He has done choir since his sophomore year, and has enjoyed all of the fun the class has brought.
Lucas is committed to Brigham Young University (BYU) for the upcoming fall semester and then plans on leaving on a two year mission for his church. After his mission, he plans on studying biology throughout college before going into med school to pursue his love of medicine so he can eventually become a cardiothoracic surgeon. He looks forward to being able to study and learn more about the medical world.

Lucas currently has a job at the Carbon Valley Rec Center where he has worked for about a year and a half. He enjoys working at the recreational center because it’s a fairly easy job and he gets to learn through new experiences. He plans on continuing this job throughout the summer before eventually leaving when he heads to college.
Throughout high school, Lucas had a few classes that he loved a little more than the rest. He enjoyed his anatomy and physiology class along with his anatomical case studies class.
“I liked these classes especially because they all connect to the field I want to go into” Lucas said, “and it was really fun to work with in person hands-on experiences in the medical field.”
Additionally, Lucas took a lot of AP classes, around 8 total, throughout high school with the rest of his classes being almost all honors.
During his junior year, he had all AP core classes, which was a challenge, but he enjoyed them. He maintained a GPA of 4.057 throughout his years at Frederick and made sure to always try his hardest.
Howell says that he liked all of his teachers, but one stood out to him in particular. “Mrs. Helman stood out because she was super supportive and helped me out a lot with what I was doing” Lucas said.
While Lucas made many memories in high school, his favorite was the Nike Cross trip to Arizona his junior year. He took this trip with the cross country team, saying that “this was really fun because me and my friends were all down there and we weren’t worried about school and just having a good time.”

If he could give any advice to someone just starting out high school he would say: “Make sure you do well because it doesn’t seem like it at times, but high school matters. Have fun too, these are some of the best years of your life and you will miss it one day.”
Lucas’s biggest role model is his friend Zach, who helped convince him to get involved with sports and he brought him into choir as well. Lucas said that “he’s someone that I want to be like, so being around him was always easy and super fun”
Howell’s favorite year was his junior year, although it was the hardest out of all four, it was also the most fun. He loved going to all of the school events and being an upperclassmen. His least favorite year was his freshman year because there was only so much he could do and there were restrictions that came with being a lowerclassman.
“If I could go back to freshman year, I wouldn’t change much, but I would definitely work a little harder.” Lucas said. “I didn’t really think my grades mattered that much as a freshman but they did. I think I would also try to be more social.”
Lucas Howell worked hard, had as much fun as he could throughout high school, and all of his accomplishments took him very far. He has made a lasting impact on Frederick, and while doing so, he has become a huge part of the Frederick community.
