Last year, the Frederick girls basketball team made it to the Final Four after a stunning season record of 19-7. This year, they are hoping to have the same success with a chance of making it even farther. Their first game of the season was a good start to this goal as they claimed a large win over Loveland. The final score stood at 63-33.
While it was exciting to watch the girls win their first game of the season, the overall game was rather slow paced and was accompanied by a Rowdy Crowd that wouldn’t make Dr. Fox proud.
With that being said, it was compelling to see the instant connection the girls had when they stepped onto the court. The team had some things they wanted to work on, but overall, when interviewed, they were happy with their performance.
Further, it was clear when all the girls walked into the gym that their weeks of practice were about to pay off. But what was even more clear was that they all had one goal: win and take their first step towards the playoffs.
Last year the girls basketball team played all the way up until the Final Four.
Making it to the Final Four was a huge accomplishment for the program, especially since the boys team had made it the year before.
The first thing Zoe Wittler commented about on her goals for the season was: “for the team, [it’s] to make it back to the Coliseum. My dream would be to go farther than last year.”
Many of Zoe’s teammates shared the same sentiment. Brinley Westmoreland, junior, noted how she was really excited for the rest of the season and how she was ready to push herself. Brinley also took the time to express her gratitude for getting to play along side such amazing teammates.
This season, the team started off strong. The team knows what they want. They have goals they want to accomplish.
Now the only question is: Will they be able to get there?
