The Netflix rom com series Emily in Paris just got a new season. This new season came out in two parts, the first part came out August 15th and the second came out September 12th.
The show in general is exceptionally good, but it does get repetitive. Watching the other seasons feels like the same thing is occurring each episode, and so does the new season.
This season also got confusing, with the amount of things that were repeated there was way too much happening in the season. It was hard to keep up, and I didn’t understand the ending. Although it was a intriguing cliffhanger, it didn’t fit the setting and plot of the show.
With all of these negative comments, this show was still very exceptional and I did enjoy the new season aside from those detrimental aspects. It was based on Emily, and her drama with the boys she is dating. After this, it starts to get confusing.
Many people who have watched this series also agree, with most of the reviews being 3 stars or under. One of its biggest issues with the show is it’s portrayal of French culture, making Parisians seem rude and not enjoyable to be around.
It also assembles negative stereotypes of Parisian’s and fails to show what life in Paris is actually like, making it a hard watch for the audience.
Emily, who is played by Lily Collins, comes off as an overly naive and too optimistic of a character, which is extremely unrealistic and upsetting to the watchers. Emily seems to solve all her problems with little effort and doesn’t face any real problems, leaving viewers disappointed and bored. This makes it hard to relate, or take this chapter seriously.
This show is supposed to be about a girl exploring relationships, and was turned into a show that showed her actions with minimal consequences to them which made it very hard to take this character seriously.
The storyline gets extremely predictable, and the love triangle is almost the exact same in every season and episode. It feels forced, and the drama ends up feeling more like a soap opera rather than a Netflix Rom-Com. Although with these flaws of the show, the humor and drama has its moments where it gets more interesting and easier to stay focused, but it always ends up getting very repetitive again by the end of the episode.
Even the fashion in the show may take some people aback considering how they are trying extremely hard to fit in when it is very obvious that they were trying to have people be more trendy, leaving this problem to distract many watchers from the actual content of the show.
While this show does have its negatives and positives, it fails to portray life in Paris in a realistic manner. Its repetitive episodes and very predictable storyline make it a very disappointing watch, and if you’re looking for a real Rom-Com that at least can show what its setting really has to offer, “Emily in Paris” most likely isn’t the right show to watch. After watching, it feels like more of a show that missed the opportunity to explain the complex life of a girl living in Paris.
