Different types of music come and go, and some make comebacks. Whether they stick or not is up to those who listen. This genre is making a comeback, and it’s big. “Emo” music is starting to become popular once again along with EDM, metal, and punk rock.
One small town band part of this New Emo movement is a group of high school and college students called No Reason to Care. Lead vocalist and pianist Dusk and his lead guitarist Drake Byars met back in middle school, both in their own bands at the time. The name came along because the band looked up inspiration on Reddit, found a name they liked (Reason to Care), and decided to make it their own.
Once they decided to create a band, they met Lars (bass) through high school. They then met Sam (rhythm guitar) after he tried to be in Germ Theory (another small band), and they met Cooper (drummer) on Craigslist. Their first original song “Poison Control” was released in 2023 and was inspired by the album The Black Parade by My Chemical Romance.
Dusk stated, “Listening to emo music and circus music gave me the idea to combine them.”
Drake on the other hand wrote his first song in high school. He said, “I wrote a guitar part; it was more of a love song for this girl I had a big crush on. When I started writing lyrics in class, it turned more into a murder/suicide song that went along with my love song guitar part.”
They have a decent following for being around for not too long. They have 2,708 followers on their Instagram and 8,599 followers on their TikTok. They also have 2,090 monthly listeners on Spotify. They have seven full-length songs (though some are demos) and one cover streaming on several music platforms.
They dropped their newest song “One of the Freaks” on July 5, 2024, which you can check out below. Links to their other songs and social media can be found at linktr.ee/noreasontocare.
