It Ends With Us, the book everyone is raving about was brought to the big screen and with it came a lot of controversy. The New York Times best selling book It Ends With Us by Colleen Hoover has been a controversial topic since its release date.
It Ends With Us is about Lily (Blake Lively) who meets Atlas (Brandon Sklenar), they fall in love and then they get separated. Years later Lily is married to Ryle (Justin Baldoni), Atlas comes back into the picture and Ryle doesn’t like that. He starts showing his true colors to Lily. He abuses her and takes all of his anger out on her and Lily ends up leaving him.
They say that when you turn books into movies it’s never as good, but the book and the movie were both disasters. The acting in the movie was not very good and the movie was all over the place. The book was better since it had more depth to the story. It went more into detail about the characters and the message about domestic violence was more clear.
I would recommend this movie… if Blake Lively was not casted as the main character. Her acting is not top notch and she was too old to be casted as Lily. In the book, Lily is in her twenties but in the movie she looks like she’s in her forties. On top of all of this, the outfits and hair were horrible. The outfits were so messy and chaotic looking. Her hair made the outfits look worse, it looked like they didn’t even try to make her hair look good. The fact that Lily’s full name is Lily Blossom Bloom really just shows how bad the movie was.
Blake Lively used this movie to promote herself and her husband Ryan Reynolds with his new movie Deadpool and Wolverine. Lively wanted it to be another Barbenheimer summer with her and her husband’s new movies, and is trying too hard to make that happen. She used a movie about domestic violence to sell things. When other cast members were being interviewed for the movie, they spoke about domestic violence while Lively avoids talking about it and makes it seem like it’s just a joke.
Fans raised suspicions about Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni’s relationship. Normally the couple in the movie would take pictures together and do interviews for the movie, but these two did not. The two did separate promo tours and haven’t been photographed together. Supposedly Ryan Reynolds was on set during filming of the movie which could be a factor to why the two don’t get along. Some people say that Lively felt “fat shamed” by Baldoni after he prepared with his trainer to lift her in one of the scenes. Blake not getting along with actors is not a surprise as actors in the past have not enjoyed working with Lively.
While working on Gossip Girl with Leighton Meester, the two were best friends in the show but not in real life. Some say it’s because Meester was more of an introvert while Lively was more outgoing. Others say they “avoided each other like the plague” and other castmates had to choose sides at times. Executive producer Joshua Safran said they were not friends… They were friendly, but not like Serena and Blair were. After working together for six years, the two don’t follow each other on social media or talk about each other.
The promotion for It Ends With Us was almost as bad as the movie itself. In a TikTok Blake says “Grab your friends, wear your florals and head out to see it.” Lively makes it seem like this movie is just a romcom with a bit of a sad story in it, when it’s actually about a very heavy topic that doesn’t get discussed much. Blake Lively ignores these topics and chooses to make everything about herself and her family instead. The movie could’ve done much better without Blake Lively in it.
