The Frederick Golden Eagles girls basketball team faces off against Severance to try and pick up another win. The girls are currently 8-4 overall and 5-2 with league play.With a win in this game it will put them at 9-4 overall and 6-2 league play. Severance is currently 5-7 going into the game so Fredericks girls are the favorites to win just based off of stats. The girls are led by head coach Jake Hansen and assistant coaches Jennifer Hurtado, and Luke Witty. The team is looking to stay disciplined and play their game and they will come out with a win.
The game starts out very even, Frederick seems to play good but so does severance. The first quarter was very low scoring with fredrick trailing severance by one at the end of the first (8-9). Fredrick would then pick up their defense and only allow severance to pick up 4 points in the second quarter. Fredrick would go on to net 11 making the score (19-13) Frederick winning after 2. “Going into the second half we knew the team needs to keep the foot down knowing we have the lead,” coach Jake Hanses when asked what his team had to do to maintain the lead at half. Severance would come out hot in the 3rd scoring 17 and fredrick only picked up 11 making the score after 3 (30-30). Tie game one quarter left, and Frederick comes out strong in the 4th scoring 19 severance scoring 8 in the 4th, making the final score (49-38)Giving the Frederick girls basketball there well earned the 9th win of the season.
In this game senior Gabby Jima was the Maxpreps player of the game. Gabby is a Sf and SG and is a crucial part of this Fredrick girls basketball team. In this matchup against Severance Gabby picked up 10 points including 5 FGM and 12 FGA gabby was clearly a crucial player i this game.
Zoe Wittier was also a crucial part of this game putting up 16 points. Zoe #25 is a junior PG for fredrick. She currently leads the team in points per game average with 12.1. Zoe is a huge part of the success for this varsity squad.
This win over Severance gives the girls a 9-4 record on the season putting them in a very comfortable and confident position. Fredricks girls next game will be another challenge against Mountain View on January 23rd. This game will give fredrick home court advantage in a conference game.
