Lily Haas is the definition of hardworking. She keeps herself busy and dedicates herself to everything she participates in, including Biomed, tennis, and marching band. Her younger peers look up to her as a leader and an example of determination and motivation.

You might know Lily from seeing her leading the marching band at football games and parades. She has been doing concert band since 5th grade, but once she got to high school, she joined the marching band as well. She began as a “normal person” in band, but last year she auditioned to be a drum major. She used to be co-drum majors with class of 2023 Ethan Noyes, and this year she is co-drum majors with Braden Thomas, although she is the lead one since she has more experience. “It’s really cool because a lot of people know me and respect me, which I wasn’t really expecting since I feel like I’m a chaotic mess all the time. They say hi to me in the halls, and you make connections that way.”

Lily has also been in the Biomed program since her freshman year. During COVID times, she got the opportunity to go to Boston to meet up with other future medical leaders from across the country. Because of COVID, she had to do it remotely but she still got opportunities to meet many new people who she still keeps in contact with. This event provided a gateway into the medical field, and it became the spark that made Lily know what she wanted to study. After some thought, she eventually knew she wanted to be an anesthesiologist. “It (anesthesiology) just interests me. I like the research and helping people, but not actually doing surgery because that’s a lot more pressure than just drugging people.”

Being involved in and having leadership positions in Biomed and band has given her opportunities to connect with her peers. She loves making those connections and building relationships that could last a long time. Those connection opportunities also influenced her to join the FHS theater program. Although she isn’t as involved with theater as her other activities, she enjoys the opportunity it gave her to meet new people and try new things. “I just like being social and having fun and building relationships with people.”

Besides marching band and Biomed, Lily has also been playing on the girls tennis team since her freshman year. Although it is not something she wants to seriously pursue, she still enjoys it and dedicates time outside of school to practice on her own.

To fill her time outside of school, she likes to read, go outside, explore, and watch movies. She is also a part of Green Club and NHS. She loves volunteering and helping out in the community.

“I would like to diagnose myself as a workaholic. I can never not be doing anything. I always have to be doing something, which is why I do all these activities.”

Lily is incredibly outgoing and social. She is hardworking and motivated, and loves to involve herself in as many activities as possible. Wherever her life takes her, she will be sure to rise up to all the challenges it offers.
