Freshman day in high school is supposed to be a day when incoming freshmen can learn the about school and how the school works. However most times both students and teachers find it as a waste of time and a day taken away from their summer break. One of the worst parts of freshman day is the pointless introductions. Each class is about 5 minutes and in that time all your teacher has to do is introduce themselves and that’s about it.
Freshman days only real purpose is to familiarize yourself with the school and it doesn’t even do that very well. You get 5 minutes at most to walk to the next class so you really can’t familiarize yourself with the school that much in such a short period.
Now freshman day isn’t all bad there are some benefits to it. One being the social aspect freshman day does provide. A day for incoming freshmen to familiarize themselves with their classmates and other people that they will be going into high school with can be a very good thing for some people. With high school being such a big step and a new chapter in everyone’s lives it should be honored more. Its a big step in meeting new people, making new friends, and starting your future plans.
Another positive impact freshman day can have is that it doesn’t throw incoming freshmen into high school. High school can be a very big and scary experience for freshmen so a day where it’s just freshman in the building can be a good way to ease them into the high school experience.
Now yes there are some benefits to freshman day but most of the benefits it provides aren’t really necessary because the next day they’ll be going to school with all the other students and upperclassmen so if their nervous about going to school with a bunch of older kids or nervous about going to a big school all freshman day really does is delay the inevitable.
So in my opinion there really isn’t a lot of benefit or point to freshman day and all it really is, is a day taken away from a freshman’s summer vacation.
