“Bewitched” is the second studio album by the Icelandic singer Laufey. It’s a jazz pop The album came out September 8 through AWAL. Before the album, it was preceded by the singles, “From the Start” “Promise” “Bewitched” and “California and Me”. Laufey described the album about the feeling of love, whether that’s with a friend, lover, or life. She said that she wanted to “experience more with becoming an adult” after she tried it with her first album.
With 13 million listeners on Spotify, the album has become really popular. It has also reached many charts over #50. The album has reached #23 on the US Billboard 200 in one week. Her album has also reached a bunch of other charts. On the Top 100 Charts, she’s reached #34. On Iceland Albums she’s reached #2. The album has been on the Top 100 charts for almost two weeks.
Starting the album with an upbeat note, the song “Dreamer” talks about self-love and being done with boys but also not giving up on love. Where the title Dreamer comes from is because she’s not giving up on her fantasy. Which is said in the lyrics, “I’m moving up into a cloud, into my fantasy” and “nobody’s gonna kill the dreamer in me.”
After the opening of the album Laufey sings about different stages of love. “Must Be Love,” ” While You Were Sleeping,” “Serendipity,” and “Bewitched,” all talk about different perspectives of falling in love. In the track “Lovesick,” Laufey shows that she’s not afraid to show the bad side of love. The song starts off talking about the start of a relationship but slowly going into the feeling of being lovesick.
“From The Start” is Laufey’s most streamed song on all platforms. With 2.2 million views on TikTok and over 110 million streams on Spotify. The song has a bubbly, playful, upbeat feel to it. Laufey sings about having a crush on someone and not knowing how to tell them and having the feeling stuck in her.
Other songs like “Second Best ” talk about how she was in a relationship with someone but that someone has someone else in mind. The song “Misty” is a more classical jazz song. It talks about a more mature way about love. The song was originally sung by the jazz singer Sarah Vaughan, but Laufey’s take on it refreshes it for a younger audience.
The album also has the song, “California and Me” which is a collaboration with the Philharmonia Orchestra. Another song called, “Nocturne” is a two-minute piano instrumental. The last song on the album is called “Letter To My 13-Year-Old Self” which is about how she was rudely treated when she was younger and how the other kids in school would make fun of her. It also talks about how you shouldn’t care about what other people think because they don’t care about the future.
Laufey has made an announcement for her North American tour called “The Bewitched Tour” on May 16th. All the dates were sold by May 19th. She made another announcement for her Europe and UK leg of the tour on August 29th. Most of the shows have been sold out, there have been four more dates added and some dates have been upgraded.
